Group Description
As we know, poultry production systems are continually evolving. One of the primary causes that determines feeding and nutrition is the improvement made in the genetic potential of poultry birds ( both broilers and layers) and this is done to harness the best potential in the shortest period and with best efficiencies. There are many other factors that have a bearing on feeding and nutrition and some of them are driven by consumers, societal needs, and to cater to the production of specialized poultry products. In some cases, feeding and nutritional may also be determined by government regulations, cost of production, access to desired raw materials and other environmental concerns.
As members of the poultry community – we represent different global regions and different scenarios that control feeding and nutrition, and your experiences will be useful for every member in the community. We feel that knowledge shared on this platform will be useful to all in either improving operations, gaining on production or for taking corrective actions. Come, join this interest group, and share your experiences and views.

Small glass funnel with stem plugged with wax. Wide mouthed glass vial. Large flask to hold water at 180 C to 200 C range for short time holding of semen. AI in poultry is a three-step procedure involving semen collection, semen dilution and insemination
-
1. Semen Collection Tools:
Artificial cloaca or semen collector: A soft, funnel-shaped device used to collect semen from the male bird.
Glass or plastic tubes: Used to collect and temporarily store semen.
Syringes without needles: For accurate semen collection and handling.
2. Microscope:
Used to check semen quality, motility, and viability before insemination.
3. Diluters:
Specialized diluents are used to extend the semen for better distribution and storage.
4. Insemination Tools:
Small pipettes or insemination straws: To deposit the semen into the female reproductive tract.
Syringes with soft, blunt ends: For precise semen delivery.

Artificial insemination (AI) in poultry requires specific equipment to collect semen from male birds and inseminate female birds effectively. The primary equipment includes:
1. Semen Collection Equipment:
Semen Collection Tubes: Small, sterile glass or plastic tubes used to collect semen from the male bird.
Semen Extenders (optional): Solutions used to dilute and preserve semen for better viability during storage or transport.
2. Insemination Equipment:
Syringe or Pipette: Used to transfer semen into the female bird’s oviduct. A specialized pipette designed for AI in poultry is typically used.
Catheters (optional): Thin tubes attached to syringes for more precise semen placement.
