    Pen mating

A single male mates with a small flock or pen of females. This method is used when the ancestry of each chick is important, or when a small flock doesn’t need more than one male.

    Stud mating

A single male mates with a single female in a pen or coop. The females can be kept together but later mated with different males

    Artificial Insemination

This method involves collecting semen from a male, diluting it, and depositing it into a female. AI can be used to mate birds of different sizes or that would not normally mate. It can also lead to higher fertility rates, more efficient male use, and accurate pedigree recording

Poultry breeding also involves pure-line selection (PLS) and crossbreeding programs.

In poultry farming, several methods of mating are commonly used to ensure effective breeding, genetic improvement, and productivity. These methods include:

    1. Natural Mating

Flock Mating: A group of hens is kept with a specific number of roosters, allowing natural mating. This is common in free-range or semi-intensive systems.

Pen Mating: A smaller group of hens is paired with one rooster in an enclosed space, ensuring controlled breeding.

Stud Mating: A single rooster is mated with one hen at a time, ensuring specific pairings. This is often used in selective breeding programs. In
