  • Temperature

The ideal temperature for chicks is between 90–95°F. Chicks that are too cold may not eat or drink.

  • Ventilation

Fresh air should be circulated throughout the house to remove gases, moisture, dust, and odors.

  • <strong ahbak=”true” aria-hidden=”true”>Humidity

Humidity should be between 60–70%. Humidity levels below 40% can cause chicks to dehydrate, and levels above 80% can lead to wet litter and poor air quality.

  • <strong ahbak=”true” aria-hidden=”true”>Lighting

Chicks need enough light to find food and water. A minimum of 20 lux is recommended.

  • <strong ahbak=”true” aria-hidden=”true”>Space

There should be enough space for each chick. Brooder rings can help chicks select a comfortable temperature.

  • <strong ahbak=”true” aria-hidden=”true”>Feed and water

Chicks need access to fresh, good quality feed and water. Moldy feed is toxic and unpalatable.

  • <strong ahbak=”true” aria-hidden=”true”>Air quality

Air needs to be exchanged frequently to reduce ammonia, carbon dioxide, and dust. Ammonia levels of 10 ppm can damage a chicken’s lungs.

And also Use chick guards to confine chicks until they learn where to find food, water, and heat. Remove the guards when the chicks are 6–8 days old.Use chick guards to confine chicks until they learn where to find food, water, and heat. Remove the guards when the chicks are 6–8 days old.

Other considerations include:<div>Providing proper heat, such as electricity, charcoal, wood, or kerosene lamps </div><div>Vaccinating chicks against Marek’s Disease, New Castle Disease (Ranikhet), and Gumboro Disease </div>
