For short hauls, a cardboard box big enough for your chicken to move will work. Just make sure to tape the box closed, and make plenty of holes for ventilation
Cages or Crates
Smallish crates or cages are best for transporting chickens. You don’t
want them to be crammed in, but you do want them contained and unable to
flap around.
Provide the poultry with water at their disposal all the time until the loading process. Perform a fasting period of at least 4 hours and a maximum of 12 hours, taking into account the average time of the trip to the processing plant. Never leave them fasting for 24 hours.
