The energy content of feed plays a crucial role in poultry performance, as it directly influences growth, reproduction, and overall health. Here’s how it impacts poultry performance:

    1. Growth Rate

High-energy feed provides sufficient calories for rapid growth and weight gain, especially in broilers.

If energy content is too low, birds may fail to meet their growth potential, even if protein and other nutrients are adequate.

    2. Feed Intake

Poultry adjust their feed intake based on energy needs. If the energy content is low, birds eat more to meet their energy requirements, which can lead to higher feed costs.

Conversely, high-energy feed may reduce feed intake, which could inadvertently reduce the intake of other essential nutrients if the feed isn’t properly balanced.

    3. Feed Conversion Efficiency (FCR)

High-energy diets improve feed conversion efficiency, meaning birds gain more weight for the amount of feed consumed.

Low-energy diets can lead to poor FCR, as birds consume more feed without achieving proportional weight gain.

    4. Reproductive Performance

Layers and breeders require optimal energy levels for egg production, fertility, and hatchability.

Inadequate energy can reduce egg size, production rates, and the overall reproductive health of birds.

The results showed that the energy level had no significant effect on the average daily feed intake for the grower period.

The energy content of feed directly impacts poultry growth, reproduction, and overall performance, with insufficient energy leading to poor productivity and excessive energy causing obesity-related issues.
