Feed materials, used for animal nutrition, consist of various ingredients to meet the dietary needs of livestock, poultry, and aquaculture species. The basic ingredients for feed materials can be categorized into the following groups:
1. Energy Sources
Cereal grains: Corn, wheat, barley, sorghum, rice.
By-products: Wheat bran, rice bran, molasses.
Oils and fats: Soybean oil, palm oil, animal fats.
2. Protein Sources
Plant-based proteins: Soybean meal, canola meal, sunflower meal, cottonseed meal.
Animal-based proteins: Fish meal, meat and bone meal, blood meal.
Non-traditional sources: Algae, insect meal, yeast.
3. Fiber Sources
Roughage: Hay, silage, straw.
Fibrous by-products: Sugarcane bagasse, beet pulp, hulls (e.g., soybean hulls).
4. Minerals
Macro-minerals: Calcium (limestone, dicalcium phosphate), phosphorus, magnesium, potassium.
Trace minerals: Zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, iodine.
5. Vitamins
Fat-soluble: Vitamins A, D, E, K.
