In laying farm, photoperiod of 16-17hrs a day has a considerable improvement in egg production if consistent. However, inconsistent lightening can drastically caused drop in egg production.
In growing period, 23-24hrs daily light in the first week of young chicks impacts positive growth rate. However, lighting period is gradually reducing from 23hrs to12hrs till when they are 14weeks old.Above this age, towards onset of laying, photoperiod will now be increasing gradually until it reaches 16-17hrs at the onset of laying This lightening management systems will not only improve growth rate but also stimulate growing pullets for egg production.

Lighting plays a vital role in poultry farming. Proper light duration and intensity help regulate feeding, growth rate, and egg-laying cycles. For layers, consistent light stimulates egg production, while for broilers, managing light can reduce stress and improve feed conversion.

This is a good summary of the role of lighting in poultry production. To improve clarity and accuracy, consider correcting grammar and elaborating on specific lighting needs. For example, pullets need increasing light to stimulate laying, while sudden changes in light duration or intensity can disrupt the reproductive cycle. Also, it’s helpful to mention that layers are more sensitive to photoperiod changes because their egg production is closely tied to day length, unlike broilers which are primarily grown for meat.Comment/Reply:

Lighting influence feed intake, growth rate and also reproductive cycle of laying birds. Birds require longer lightning during at the early state of growth. If the lighting period is not enough, it affects the growth and productivity. Laying birds may have decreased egg production. Layer are affected by poor lighting than broilers.

Proper lighting management is crucial for both growth and egg production in poultry. It influences bird behavior, reproductive cycles, and overall health, directly impacting productivity and profitability.

Lighting affects the hormonal balance, circadian rhythm, behavioural activities and feed conversion. Thus, the intensity, wavelength, duration and colour spectrum of the light must be well managed and balanced to achieve maximum performance of the birds.
