Poultry

Sustainability could be defined as a social goal to co-habit with the earth positively. It is often broken into three concepts of economic, eniviroment and social that interacts with each other.
So for a poultry farm it could be as simple as recycling your used feed bags or using it to plant crops in urban centres.
It could also be in the way we process the manure we generate from out farming activities. How do we treat them? Do we compost them? Do we dispose of them in such away that constitute to polluting the water table in our area? Have we thought of them as an input say for feeding black soldier fliers and getting an output of Frass, which is a very rich organic fertiliser? Can the manure be used to generate energy that can be used to heat up or power the farm?
What of problems of abuse and use of antibiotics in our poultry operations. Can using natural plant extracts from the varied sources like garlic, tumeric, neem trees, moriga, alovera, herbs and spices be used as alternatives in breeding of our birds?
Can housing of our birds be done more sustainably ? Is it possible to build our poultry houses with sustainable trees like bamboo that is abundant in the land?
And the truth is that sustainability makes a lot of business and economic sense both in the short and long run. Our earth is our responsibility and we should be innovative and creative in our poultry practices to reduce the harm we do to it.
