This yield gap is primarily due to the under-usage of modern inputs in developing countries. Sub-Saharan Africa imports substantial volumes of processed soybean in the form of oil and cake for animal feed to fill the gaps. As a net importer, Africa is exposed to rising global prices for soybean, oil, and cake.
A major problem of soybean production, is a fairly high loss in plant population during the growing season. This loss will depress yields and prevents development of the inherent potential that soybean crop has for food production and capital formation.
