    Early detection and treatment of any infection / disease is very crucial in poultry farms. Delay in detection can lead to losses due to spread of disease to other birds, eventually leading to production drop and/or mortality.

    Consider following points:

    * Monitor the birds daily – for feed/water intake, behaviour, production level, early signs of any infection

    * To have better understanding of any change in the flock, proper records to be maintained – health, medication, vaccination, mortality, feed registers etc

    * Train workers for detection of very early signs of any disease and report the same to the supervisors/vets

    * initiate suitable treatment without any delay, based on symptoms and PM lesions

    * Isolate the sick birds and treat. Check for vaccination status of the rest of the flock

    * Further, send samples to labs for confirmatory diagnosis

    * Also, consider gathering information about similar outbreaks in other farms in the vicinity.

    * Maintain proper biosecurity

    First, lets make sure what we are talking about – “full-fat” whole extrusion relates to soybeans and it provides the advantages listed in the replies. When done correctly it provides a high protein high energy feedstuff. The protein content is the same as a soybean (34-38%), the lipid (fat) content will be the same as a soybean (17-19%). When done correctly the primary trypsin inhibitors will be destroyed/inactivated; the amino acids will not be denatured so will remain complete and will be nutritionally available; the fat cells will be disrupted releasing the lipid – the heat of processing will inactivate the lypoxigenase so the lipid will not oxidize. The product cannot replace SBM on a unit-to-unit basis as it has less protein so reformulation will be necessary – also the energy content is obviously higher, so again reformulation will be needed – an associated advantage is that there is no need for fat/lipid addition to the formula. Depending on the cost of SBM and soybeans there may be a cost savings in using full-fat extruded sbm.
