Good day all,
Following the recent outbreak of Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) in different parts of Nigeria (e.g Delta state) and around the world (e.g Peru),
How can we develop an effective bio-security program that is cheap and can be adopted by rural smallholder farmers?

What nutritional challenges have you encountered in the field? Post a picture with a short description here to either share your experience or request help from other members of the forum. Below is an example of liver damage. Among mycotoxins, Aflatoxin, Ochratoxin and T-2 toxin are of significance to the poultry industry as they are frequently encountered in the feedstuffs and are highly toxic. Safe dietary additives have played an important role to protect birds from potential mycotoxin hazards. Addition of absorbents to contaminated feed is known to selectively bind mycotoxins during the digestive process. Modified glucomannan, a cell wall derivative of yeast, has received much attention in minimizing the mycotoxins in poultry diets. Feeding broilers with toxin contaminated feeds has resulted in increased liver weight due to accumulation of fat. The liver also appears pale in colour. Supplementation of modified glucomannan to the feed containing aflatoxin and T- 2 toxin (50 numbers for 5 weeks duration) was found beneficial in counteracting the adverse effects on liver.

Hello, Does anyone have a good biosecurity protocol for our hatchery? We
are concerned about avoiding a salmonella outbreak. All responses are
welcome.
